This was a grand but friendly occasion. We marked the 25th anniversary of Fr Graeme's ordination at St Anthony's Church, Scotland Road. Parishioners from our present three churches were joined by friends from Graeme's former parishes.
As ever, on these great occasions, we were joined by friends: Jayne and Brian (trumpet), Cliff (horn), John (trombone), Rona (flute) and Andrew (piano and organ). But a newbie joined our band: Anthony John Clarke, a friend of Graeme, wrote a piece especially for the occasion based on the parable of the sower.
Graeme had requested Shaun Davey's The Deer's Cry, a setting of St Patrick's Breastplate – I knew our small choir could never manage this but, somehow, we did. The girls worked hard at the piece and really did come up with the goods on the day. Graeme publicly thanked everyone for the music but, this time, he singled out Chris for the solo at the beginning of The Deer's Cry. And quite rightly so. Chris does so much for the music in our parish – and organises many social events too – she deserved a special mention!
