The first Sunday of Lent and the music has shifted gear. Last week's Alleluias and Laudates gave way to much simpler fare. We've been using the Communion Song On Bread Alone for some time but today it really took off – perhaps because the assembly had heard these words in the Penitential Act and the Gospel Greeting. In Lent we end Mass without any sort of final song and try to leave the church in silence – today it really worked. A good start to Lent.
