Some of the music from Gerry's Funeral Mass can be heard here.
Today we said goodbye to Gerry, our Deacon, who died last week just a few days after his 73rd birthday.
Today we said goodbye to Gerry, our Deacon, who died last week just a few days after his 73rd birthday.
Gerry had written his own homily – which was duly read out. He'd also left a list of musical choices and we did our best to keep to them. However, we added a few flourishes here and there, so there were Handelian brass fanfares during Thine be the Glory and the Immaculate Singers added harmonies and descants wherever possible. And they gave their best ever rendition of Dwelling Place.
More than 400 people attended. Add that to the 200-plus who were at the reception of Gerry's coffin the night before (see below) and it gives a fair picture of how well-loved and respected he was.
Rest in peace, Gerry. And thank you for all you did for us.
